Wired For Connectiveness.

There is always something exhilarating about the world to discover and be intrigued by. Each one of us have different motivations for what drives us to explore our universe. Personally, the reality of being isolated and the human need of connectivity are what drive me. Today, I hope to enlighten you on the two activities that bring me happiness. These two things are traveling and adventures. First, let me talk about traveling.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to travel to both Calgary, Canada and Pheonix, Arizona to visit friends. Each trip was about a week. While most of y’all probably hate traveling by plane, I enjoy it and often connect with the people in my row. For example, on the way home from Canada, there were a husband and wife sitting beside me. We started talking and actually talked the whole flight. The reason this incident is significant is because they saw past my disability and saw me as a regular human being capable of a conversation.

During both trips, I was immersed with people of different lifestyles. While I was in Canada, I spent a whole day in the mountains. I also was able to experience the Calgary Stampede which is this yearly week long event. On the other hand, while I was in Arizona, I was able to go behind the scenes of harvesting cotton. I was able to ride a tractor and go into a cotton gin.

As a result, I was able to experience and broaden my knowledge and appreciation of the hard work put into growing the cotton and processing the cotton we wear on a daily basis in the form of clothing. Similarly, while traveling I am able to expand my list of adventures I  have experienced.

While at the Calgary Stampede, there was the option of zip lining.  I have always wanted to zip line but haven’t gone due to the availability around Wilmington. It sure did not disappoint either. After getting harnessed up and climbing what seemed like an endless succession of stairs with other eager participants, I was ready to whiz across the event grounds not once but twice. I can still feel the adrenaline rush I got when I think of it.

When I was in Arizona I was able to go quadding with a friend in buck eye. The adrenaline one gets when barreling through the plains at 80 or 90 miles per hour. Top it with a stunning picturesque view of the Arizona sunset is indescribable. During this 30 minute ride, I was with my friend and his nephew experiencing their hobbies which are unique to Arizona terrain. Also I was able to bond with my friend whom I had not seen in several years. It is during these events and others that I don’t feel lonely or isolated due to limitations I face on a daily basis. The adventures are added sources of happiness on top of traveling.

Today I endeavored to enlighten y’all about two activities which brings me happiness. The two activities which cause me happiness are traveling and adventures. The next time you are find yourself alone and in need of human connectivity, get out, talk to strangers, and try something new.  Thanks for your time.
